Jims Art

May20
I also incorporated my documents blog to a blogger blog by moving the whole thing here, for the mean time they will be in two places until I get everything to where I want it. The only real problem so far is editing and incorporating everything into one place.
Back to work on collages and drawings. All of the thoughts I have about what I should do are rapped up into what I think I will do. not all translate into some- thing tangible or a concrete action as apposed to a see me. Some just are Spackle on the inside of my brain waiting for me to take some action. But then again we should discuss our freedom to think. It is not always we who do the thinking. Sometimes the thinking is done for us by out side forces.

The following painting is my latest painting and was entered in the "Our Best You Show" in Seguin at the Seguin-Oakwood Art League show at the Silver center.

Seguin Oakwood Art League Art show reception is today id there is anything to see I'll post a picture. Otherwise off to visit Mom and go to lunch. then to the reception. Will try to get some work done on my new watercolors later.

May16

Went to see "Angels and Demons". Except for the ranting and raving about organized religion it is just an action movie . It was a good look away. Not a move to come away from with a new feeling about anything. Not a movie to move you. Just a deviation from the norm. A way to not think about those who are in control.

God told us that those who govern do so at his pleasure. I guess it doesn't matter. God did send Nebuchadnezzar to afflict Israel because of there sin and neglect. Can we be so much better, or worse. Are we neglecting our God?
Are we reaping the rewards of neglect and complacency. Have we strayed from his way? Are we lost? Its time to look at the map again and even ask for directions.

Oh about my Art. I am thinking about a sale.
[ a reduction in price, ask me about it.]

Here are some of the things I have been working on lately. I stopped titling my collages it easier to number them as long as you can remember what the last number was.

I am concerned tht the new peresident is not the anti-christ but the anti- american. So much of what I hear it would seem is a scheme to take over as much of the countries buisess as possible before the congress catches on. With this new power will they effectively control everything.

Since I am retired will they kill Social Security and then my permanant disability will become non exhistant. How long before they regulate our pensions?

It w
ould seem that heakth care is next. If the can terminate born and un born children! what about old people, too expensive to continue care, it is easyer to let them die.

May13

work has progressed a long way on my new painting but, I have to decide what approach to follow up with. Started a new collage just keeping my finger wet.

Still have a number of things I am working on but haven't finished. I have a lot to finish.

Its taken me the better part of seven years since my MFA to get back to working on larger paintings[larger than 2' x 2']. Before my MFA I hadn't worked on a painting [4' x 4'] since the middle seventies. So I guess I am progressing. The last two paintings have been [3' x 3']. Still working.

May 11

It's Monday, I'm still retrired! I don't have to do anything I don't want to.
I am working on a painting, (3) watercolors, (2) digital prints with wax pastel.

I'ts been a while but here is my latest enhanced digital piece. I am still working in a few more and have a number of ideas in the back of my head.

I was stricken the first time I noticed this building. I had missed it a number of times say two and a half years of driving by it. Also the muted colors were almost erye in their complexity. every thing from the fades d to stained white wash of the building exterior to the fgray grown dirt gravel on the ground with shadows of aged dirt.

So now that a Supreme Court Justice is retiring, who will replace him?

April 30

Got the pieces up for the show in Seguin, but forgot to photograph the new piece a land scape called "Forest View".
Will do that Sunday for the opening. Then I can post them all.

April 29

It is human nature that all of us who produce something wish to be recognized for that product, one uses is a problem, it reduces every thing to a popularity contest. People are judged by how much people pay attention, not to your production. but to your popularity. Not to be recognized for that production, in deference to there ability. This goes against what I was taught. This becomes "if you work hard you will be liked, what does this have to do with working hard, the only thing that I hear is of popular acceptance. Is that is how you succeed? I would seem that a man who creates a mot numbental debt would be chastised for bad judgment, but in the case of Obama he is popular and thus has succeded.

April 27

Hill country 2 below as well as the new landscape called landscape will go on exshibit at the end of this week at the Seguin Oakwood Art League art show.

April 26

The dawn breaks, Then you must wonder what was broken? Alas it was only the dark! Almost finished a large landscape will post later upon completion .
Am resuming work on three drawings and four collage pieces that were interrupted when I went wondering.

April 24

back from our wonderings in Missouri,or at least southwestern Missouri captivates with its vistas and its landscapes, it is wonderful and Branson is beautiful, and gave me a chance to reconnect with my youth got to see a Roy Rogers Jr. show as well as a40 n 50n 60's music review. got a bunch of sketches done and took a couple hundred photographs Lake Taneycomo is a beautiful and captivating. The water is so deep, over 200' in places, spent part of two days touring the lake on my brother in law Terry's boat, got as far south as the Missouri - Arkansas border. There are some really wonderful sights, big beautiful homes.

ls
Alas the o ptibvtime draws near, antd we will take ti rhe road as we have done so many times in years past. Got my cameras packed, my computer and art parafanilia. Plan on taking pictures of barns, silos, fields and animals all to enter into my vistas in my paintings. Besides that I plan on doing some landscapes in Watercolor. Will also do some experimenting on my techniques. As
I grow older I find that there are a lot of things I just can't do anymore, the list seems to be growing, I'll just have to deal with what I can do. The mind seems clear butthen is it or is that a delusionssouri is beautiful?

April 4

I find it hard at times to focus. It is hard to decide what to work on next. I am currently working on one three foot square acrylic landscape. three wax pastel over digital image drawings (two hedge pieces and an old house), and three collage piece with water media in my fast food series besides a number of color sketch book landscapes. So I continually confuse my self with what to work on next. Then,I get to get them finished so I can work on something else.

Off to Nebraska next week to recharge and see people we haven't seen in at least two years. We are going to try to get to the Marxhausen Art Gallery at Concordia University the Jocelyn Art Gallery in Omaha, and the Sheldon Art Gallery in Lincoln for some research.

April 3

Below are the latest of my acrylic paintings consisting of deconstructed landscape elements that are recombined to create my design. Elements in this work were taken from memories of West Texas, Eastern California and Nebraska. I have put this together to help me remember the beauty of the vistas of our national landscapes.

Not trying to be a bummer. The diabetes gets to you after a while. but I've had it for more than 24 years, I guess its time to relax and get used to it.

On a lighter note am still working, it now takes about two days a week to update the websites and then I can work on my Art to put o my sights. Off to Nebraska next week to recharge the mind and relax a little. I need to get some barn pictures to get me going on some more farm elements. I am seriously thinking of doing some work on Silos, they are a stark reminder of the past. But for that matter so are barns, they are not being erected any longer its too expensive. So again we move forward. Fixed the website, it was the software's fault

April 1

As things progress we progress. Ever faster toward that day of our death. Not trying to be a bummer. but things happen. Putting another of my new collage pieces into the gallery at NBAL today (Bell Tool). There seems to be a major problem with my website so I will get to spend the day working on that.

It's snowing in San Antonio. And today is! Added three new pieces to the new work page on jimkamprath.com Here is some of my current pieces

I have updated my web sites and all relating articles found on the sites or on other sites and linked to my web pages. There is some duplicity found on the sites, but better more than not enough. Still working on my collages, finding that they give me more satisfaction in the completion on of a piece of art that relies on my ability to complete a nonrepresentional composition that relies on my ability to create and sustian an abstract piece that is complete and well designed. composition and design are utmost in my pieces. if you need a link here are my websites.
my paintings
my drawings and multimedia pieces

March 23

Put a link to this blog in my painting website also updated the website.
Working on a number of larger paintings. Restudying watercolor from the oriental perspective. Also spending some time working ion my ink drawing.

Just so I don't feel like I'm doing nothing here are the links to articles I am working on to be inserted into my web pages as partial explication of my work, and some hints as to how I do them and the materials that are involved.

March 17

Still painting. getting more and more into landscapes.

March 10

Finished a set of landscapes and one larger land scape as well as the two winter hedge drawings.

March 7

Went to see Watchman, this is the best attempt to show a movie as a comic strip. The Story was a bit convoluted, but the experience was fulfilling.

I am working on the landscapes I started a while ago, using Acrylic to finish what I started. Working on a semi mono chromatic back ground. Will post when I get a chance.{see above}

Still working on the two winter hedge pieces in wax pastel over original digital images. Will post some time.
March 2

The two pieces below constitute what I am entering into the watercolor show. My work of late is of a softer vein. I am endeavoring to be more than my collages allow me to be. I love the interplay between colors and texture that can be achieved with wet application of watercolor paint.

I am of the opinion that paper is of little or no difference, since any paper that can be given a surface suitable for painting. When gessoed properly almost any substantial paper can be painted on, sanded and re painted until the desired effect is achieved.

I am also finally realizing the representational art, realism as we see it, is more the current in vogue today. Glenna Park at Memphis College of Art said" it is invariable that all artist will cycle through their developed styles, coming back to what makes them feel comfortable with what they are doing, or in other words you are destined to come back to what you have done before.

Fred Burton said, "that we should experiment with implementation until we get to a spot that makes us feel good about what we are doing".

Gerald Brommer also said "that we should constantly try new approaches to our art making." In that veins I show what I am doing now.

I framed two watercolor paintings for entry into Seguin Oakwood Art League Watercolor Show. {see above}

February 27

Here it is the big day, I go to Seguin to take down Art Show, then go to visit Mom, We will see what the morning brings. Working on my graphite(pencil) drawings.

February 26

Well I will rest today in preparation to take down the show in Seguin tomorrow. It is becoming harder to focus on what I want to get done.

Still working on some drawings of faces as a study. Trying to see how far to one side I can go with it and still bring it back to a semblance of recognizably.Who ever said a portrait has to look like the person you are portraying. . Who 's to say that as the drawing is created it brings into being the person who's visage it is, or likeness it shows us. I never said it had to make sense.

February 24

Behold, the sun has risen. The light descends to earth to illuminate us all.
Still working on the collages and water color, as well as acrylic paintings.

Still working on the two new hedge pictures in the series I started a number of years ago. Hoping to finish soon,

Also working on a number of drawings of people, that would be pencil, oh that is graphite now. Haven't done this type of work in years. probably thirty, since the seventies in the Bronx.

Here are the new watercolors: My definition of watercolor is a painting done with watercolor paint, this would not include Acrylic. on paper, or some other surface prepared with some type of sizing. I don't just paint on the paper. If Acrylic is use then the piece become mixed media. I use, Gesso or Gel Matte medium or opaque or gloss medium or combination of two or more of the above for a thick hard surface. Which is then sanded to a smooth surface as a preparation. These pieces are usually smaller than my traditional drawing or painting surfaces Most are 11 x 12 or smaller. In some cases the paper is a collage of digital images that I then paint over with a single or combination of media

February 20

Sti
ll working on the watercolor for the show in Seguin next month.Hopefully I can start working on a collage and a piece with wax pastels. will post what I can when ever.

February 16

It's my Anniversary. It has been 12 years since Paulette and I tied the knot and she began saving my life. We are planning a leisurely retired day doing what ever strikes our fancy maybe some shopping or at least looking at the new Target on FM 306, then dinner out her pick, she hasn't told me yet.

I will also be working on a few watercolor paintings, I am toying with using a colored medium [green] spray in place of gesso to ground the paper, well see.

I the 70's I experimented with spray paint but is continued it because 1) it was toxic. 2) it was hard to control. the nozzles constantly got clogged. 3) it was impossible to vary the hue of the color. So with this new method I can 1) eliminate the toxic. 2() eliminate the clog of the nozzle, these easily cleanup with water. 3) colors can easily be changed by adding or medium or pigment. So it looks like a positive for more study. It works well in combination with a brush. I does not need to be an exclusive application.

It's getting harder to see, everything seems to be in a fog
. Doctor said they ere OK, with the beginnings of a cataract but not with in the field of view
.

February 7

Put up the show at the Silver Center this week, Working on a few watercolors for March Seguin show. Planning on joining the League at the February 14th meeting. so I can enter a piece in the Watercolor Show in March. Paulette is planning on joining also it does not cost to enter there shows. Hope full this will get her to start doing some Art also.
February 1

Well the company are now all gone, its time to get back to work, am working on four new collages using spray acrylic gloss enamel it really does a good job, especially if you mix enamel with the water used to soak the collage elements. Will try to post pics.

About Me

My photo
I have spent 35 years teaching in schools from New York to L.A.County. I have been a principal in New York and California. I tend to paint what I see, or at least what I think I see in my memories.
