Moody Landscape
12" x 18" Mixed Media on paper
2011 $250

October 25

Another tear has come and gone and I stand here another year older but this time I have reached the age of retirement not un like the age of enlightenment. I now better what to do and not do, something I should have mastered many years ago.I don' t make some of the blunders I used to quiet regukarily and the age of unI knowledge that the number of days I have left are numbered. It would be best to finish trhe things that need finishing and let go of those out of reach.Speaking of finishing something. Above is a piece I finished this morning in time for my birthday.

landscape 2011
24" x 36" water media and collage on paper
2011
Part of the continuing series of larger pieces of water color and water media and collage on paper, continuing to explore the landscape form as I see it. As I continue I see the value of the use of varied values to capture an enhanse ther vision of depth in my pieces. Since we but choose to show in two dimensions what our Minds see in three dimensions. I continue to work toward a synthasis of form and painting to show the inter dimensional bridge of reality and perception.

Homge
24" x 36" mixed media
$350 2011

Spent free time of late getting a large water media piece done. An attempt to go abit sideways
While enjoy doing the piece based on a digital image then transforming them into mine by coloring over them.
This time I wanted a bit more abstract with realism scattered within.
Instead of a representatiojn this would have to considered an abstracted representation of a thought as apposed to reality.

Lunch at Taco Bell and went to check out Longhorn Steakhouse for possible dinning out at some time in the future .Paulette went into J.C. Penny's to look for a blouse ended up buying me two pair od dress slacks.
Ian sitting here in the car listening to classical music and typing in this note to be added to my daily notes.
Can't wait to get home to work in some art.
It's been a while so it's time.
Got one of the scenery photos from Ron Kamprath almost ready to go. It will be fun and a challenge to work on the new piece. Will post as it gets closer to being finished.

March 20

Rocks and valleys a series of landscapes that celebrate geological weathering. Trying to gather enough information and photos to supplement the process.
Have the next wax pastel over digital photograph work based on one of Ron Kamprath's photographs that he sent me last week.
I have a burbling brook scene that is pleasing. Will resize the picture to fit in a 16" x 20" fame with at least 1.5 inch mat. Which would be 13" x 17" piece.

Got to the point where I have re-remembering what is going on with spreadsheet sorting to make my life a lot easier I will be able to do what I have been asked to do.

Tsunami is eminent on the west coast of the US after the 8.9 earthquake on japan.
Waiting for relatives to arrive.
It is hard to understand what is happening on earth we must ponder about the Warning that there would be earthquakes and famine at the beginning of the end.
Is this the beginning of the end? The quake I'm Japan was the fifth worst in modern recorded history.

Spent must of the day getting things done that needed be be done. Started. New landscape with ink. Had to make the ink with my susuzi and sumo ink blocks.Always a toil and slow progress. I always try to fill at least one 1, 1 oz. Bottle. Doesn't sound like much until you look and see that Higgins Infda Ink is in one ounce bottles. I try tro keep about 10 on hand.

Having a devil of a time trying to decide wether to switch to figurative or continue with landscapes? I haven't spent time on figurative since the seventies and If don't feel that I have gotten to where I want to be with the landscapes. So is it unconsciously obscene to have my work look "pleasing", Now I know that goes against the accepted convention thought. Is it too much to ask to have it my way So I'll have to do some sketches and see what comes up.

March 2

As I see it the way the government is handling things it's no going to get any better if there isn't any measurable change for the positive there doesn't look to be any possibility of a corrected situation. So far the unemployment rate is still at or above 9 percent and it has been for almost a full year. The amount of debt is escalating at an alarming rate and the go remnant does not se able to make a decision or if they do they don't seemingly put any thought into it.
Now some have said that that is really fucked up.

February 22

Brief thoughts on how to do a composition based on an a "I want" or a quick thought or anything that crosses my frontal lobes. When I start to work I try to pick a way to visualize what I have seen in my mind. How about start with bright yellow then start the design in white and graphite them work in the collage and color to see how it world put.

Sitting in the Dr. Office waiting to have my blood drawn for my quarterly appointment with Dr Gonzalez. Waiting is kind of like hell and is a dreary excuse for living. Planning on paining a plethora of all water media pieces.
I think I can fill a bunch of frames. Keep the collage to aim and work purely in only water color. Work on technique and variance I'm color. Come in with wax pastel for more brilliance use simple tissue paper for lightening effect and continue later with more watercolor and highlights with acrylic. Work on series of gourges overgrown with greenery. Looking up fromthe vley floor. At the cataract.

February 13

My work tends to be more of an abstracted landscapes to tercel see of I cam develop a different reference for the landscapes. Susan Makstadt in Memphis is doing a lot of work to change the vantage point of the traditional landscape. Her work explore the different vantage point and different subject matter than used in the past, such as parking lots and roadsI use as a collage material anything that can be considered paper this away my piece is still consider paper. Since I use a Matte medium for collaging the surfs be is still workable in almost any medium watercolor adheres to the surface as if it were raw paper . The paper , I use is predominately Stratford and Utrecht papers at around 100-150 pounds. As wells i use carpenters brown heavy paper. This paper is heavy enough to be constantly manipulated and it if rips it can be glued and resurfaced easily.

Something finised, a different approach. Will be trying to render pieces as a symbolic representation rather than a realistic rendition. Since I work primarily in abstraction. Not as it is but how I see it.

Looking at the book of Kells. Some really great symbolic representations of landscape elements and representations of vegetation. will have to make some of them my own. Still water coloring and building up to what ever comes next.
Since I have been working. if I finish what I have started I would have about 10 more pieces. So we will see what happens.

Went back to landscape elements today. Trying to getting back lnto the process of creating Art. In defense of my remiss I have been busy with other things I gave up on entering the Austin Show.
Still want to work with collage and watercolor marks on paper. Firing up the old brain corpuscles to get things going again.

January 13

Working on landscape research today. Looking at the range of possibilities. It is almost infinite. Change one little thing and its different. It would seem that our popularity based Art system would keep tract of what is popular so all of those artists working would know what to work on. But that would eliminate the possibility of change or innovation.

Time marches on. And we are caught up in it. To think that when we enter the realm of the Savior we will be in a timeless environ.

Looking at everything as it is is a gift I have received from my Art professors. To see what is there in front of you, not just the object, but the means by which it can be perceived. Is what we see a mere reflection of what is or what it can be expressed as by our minds.

Thing move on and we often can't keep up so we fall behind. That isn't to say we are down on our ass, as much as we are having trouble keeping up. Is it necessary to keep up? Well, no it isn't , then why do I spend so much time bring it up

Looked at the art world as a place where almost nothing has to do with ar as much as who you know and blow.
Since we are a capitalist society regardless of what the Socialist say. Art is governed by salability not content or artistic ability. Then it would make sense that the artist spend as much time as possible revising and refining his art.
Do not tarry , but continue to carry on.
Time does rush on.

January 10

My art is not on hold only partially suspended.
I am current working three pieces with caring success. Still haven't definitively made up my mind about sending int pieces to the Austin Art show, have until the 18 of the months to make up my mind.

Have things in mind to work on but still am on hold until I get outbid this funk I'm in.
Speaking of things to do next, I have about five or six pieces to get framed, if I intend to submit pieces in the photography show in Seguin. I also need to get things as ready as l can, as the sculpture show is in June in New Braunfels.

It would seem that after the tragedy in Arizona of one crazed man, who has now been linked to a radical group. It would seem that the left and the liberal media is using this act to further there goals of bringing down Talk Radio.

It would seem that they feel that radio should not be allowed to infect the minds of the aborant with in society. It would seem that they feel that radio should not be alowed to broads cast freely but only acording to their strictures.

Jims Art Log 2010 - Google Docs

Jims Art Log 2010 - Google Docs
January 2

OK its been a while and all things and nothings come to an end.

As to my Art. I continue to work on water media and collage pieces that are fragmented landscapes.I am beginning to draw again not for anything other than for keeping my hands in it.

I have some new ideas for my web pages, we will have to see how it goes.

January 1

I guess it is fair to say that not all that goes on is what we planned.

This is why we have a great and loving God the rules the heavens and earth.

We can take comfort in the word. God tells us that he has ordered our lives and none rule that are not his choice for His purpose.

December 24

Well I guess we can't delay it any longer, Christmas is upon us.

For to us a child was born.

God has given us his son to save us from our sin.

Merry Christmas.

As the new year approaches, we must trim our lamp so that we are ready. The night will not always be up on The Day approaches to lighten our hearts and spirits.
So I can also say happy New Year. Although it is a week away it to approaches like a thief in the night.

God rest ye Merry gentlemen and ladies, and God bless you all

I have spent 35 years teaching in schools from New York to L.A.County. I have been a principal in New York and California. I tend to paint what I see, or at least what I think I see in my memories.
